1. The Mocănița of Maramureș
One of the most popular tourist railway routes in Romania is the "Mocănița" of Maramureș, which takes you through the forests and mountains of the Vaser Valley. The Mocănița is a steam train, and the journey begins in Vișeu de Sus, a picturesque town located at the foot of the mountains. On its nearly 21-kilometer route, the train winds through breathtaking landscapes, with rivers running alongside, dense forests, and snow-covered mountain peaks, especially in the winter.
Why choose the Mocănița? Because it is an authentic experience, being one of the few steam trains still operating on an active forest railway. It's perfect for a day trip, and the photos will definitely be spectacular!
Regarding the schedule, you should know that in January, February, March, and April, it runs on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays; from May to October, it runs daily; and in November and December, it operates on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.

2. Oravița – Anina Railway
This railway is considered one of the oldest and most picturesque railway routes in Romania. The Oravița-Anina route offers you a spectacular journey along steep mountain landscapes.
CFR informs that this is the oldest mountain railway in Southeast Europe. It features 14 tunnels, 10 viaducts, and mountain cuttings spanning 21 km, covering more than two-thirds of the entire route!
