5 facts about Brasov International Airport

Newly Built Airport: Brasov International Airport is the first airport to be built from scratch in Romania in the last 50 years. The terminal is capable of accommodating 1 - 1.2 million passengers annually. It boasts 10 check-in counters and a runway measuring 2820 meters in length and 45 meters in width, with concrete shoulders of 7.50 meters. This infrastructure can accommodate a variety of aircraft types, making it the third-largest terminal in Romania after Henri Coandă Airport in Otopeni and Cluj-Napoca Airport. The project, including planning and construction, cost around 70 million euros, with development efforts beginning in 2012.

Official Opening on June 15th: The first flights to and from Brasov Airport are scheduled for June 15, 2023. The inaugural flight will be an internal one operated by Tarom, departing from Bucharest at 07:30 and arriving at Ghimbav Airport around 08:10. In the same week, the Romanian airline Dan Air will commence flights to and from Nuremberg, Germany. The same airline plans to open seven more routes, including destinations such as Barcelona, Brussels, London, Munich, Stuttgart, and Nuremberg.

First Virtual Air Traffic Control Tower in Romania: One of the most significant investments at Brasov International Airport is the virtual air traffic control tower. It was announced as operational in February 2023 and was officially accepted at the end of May. This tower is special because it's the first functional virtual air traffic control tower in Romania and Southeastern Europe. It allows air traffic control to be conducted remotely from a distance of over 450 kilometers, specifically from Arad.

Certified International Airport: Brasov-Ghimbav International Airport received its international airport certification on June 6th. This certification enables the airport to operate international flights starting in mid-June. Authorities consider this airport project to be of great impact, bringing new development prospects to the region.

Bus Service to and from Brasov: Starting from June 15th, a special bus line will be put into operation, connecting Brasov's train station to the airport and vice versa. The frequency of the buses will be coordinated with flight schedules. The service will be adjusted based on passengers' transportation needs. The fare for this route will be the same as for other routes, 4 lei for 60 minutes.
