When was World Animal Day first celebrated?

Did you know that the first celebration of World Animal Day actually took place on March 24, 1925, in Berlin? The event, which included exhibitions and speeches hosted at the Sport Palace, was originally scheduled for October 4th. However, it was rescheduled because the organizers couldn't find a venue large enough for the date, according to www.worldanimalday.org.uk, as cited by Agerpres.

Interestingly enough, the initiative to establish World Animal Day came from the German writer and publicist Heinrich Zimmermann, a passionate advocate for animal rights, as indicated by the same source.

Today, World Animal Day is celebrated to promote the rights and welfare of all animals.

The Târgu Mureș Zoo, the largest in the country

The Târgu Mureș Zoo was opened in 1964. Today, "in addition to being the largest zoo in the country in terms of area, it is also the only one that has elephants, giraffes, and gibbons," according to the official website.

The Mureș Zoo now covers 42 hectares and is home to approximately 800 animals, representing over 150 local and exotic species.
