The Adventure of Your Life Between Bran Castle and Omu Peak
Push your limits in the Bucegi Mountains! Find out everything about the 11th edition of Transylvania 100.

We now invite you to a program much more exciting than a simple excursion. At the end of May, one of the most thrilling and dynamic sporting events of the year will take place in Bran and its surroundings: the 11th edition of Transylvania 100. Over the past ten editions, this event has grown into one of the most beautiful and mystical trail running series in Eastern Europe. If you love trail running, are passionate about mountain landscapes, and are looking for a weekend program that is guaranteed to raise your adrenaline levels, then your place is at the foot of the Bucegi Mountains on May 23rd.

Everything Worth Knowing

Transylvania 100 is an international event where enthusiastic professionals and amateurs fight together against the elements of nature. Registration is done individually for each distance, and the organizers award prizes to the best runners in all categories. It is important to know that during registration, previous trail running experience is verified, except for the shortest distance. This strict screening serves the safety of the participants, as high mountain terrain is no joke. For the 100-kilometer route, for example, proof of completing a previous trail race of at least 60 kilometers with 2000 meters of elevation gain is required. The competition offers 5 different categories (100K, 80K, 50K, 30K, 20K), so everyone can find the challenge that suits their level of preparation.

The organizers pay attention to every detail so that runners can focus solely on performance. The participation kit includes a technical T-shirt, a race number with a chip, GPS tracks, and a printed map. For the longest distances (100K and 80K), the kit also includes a 10-liter waterproof "drop-bag," which the organizers transport to the halfway point of the course. Along the way, rich aid stations await: warm soup, pizza, coffee, and tea help replenish your energy. Every participant who crosses the finish line receives a unique finisher's medal and a diploma, while category winners receive a trophy and free entry for next year's race. Registration takes place on the official website of the competition, where you will find all additional details and prices.

The race weekend begins on Friday, May 22nd. Between 14:00 and 21:00, participation kits can be picked up at the Bran Sports Hall, where you can also familiarize yourself with the products of the sponsors in a mini-expo. On Saturday, the struggle begins in the early hours: the 100K and 80K fields start at 5:00 AM from the castle courtyard. They are followed by the 50K at 7:00 AM, and then the 30K at 9:00 AM.

Safety First

The Bucegi Mountains can be merciless; the weather can change in minutes, which is why the mandatory equipment (Mandatory Kit) is strictly controlled. Every runner must have: a race number with a chip, a map, a compass, suitable trail shoes, a water reservoir of at least 0.7 liters, and 400-800 kcal of emergency food. Also mandatory are a waterproof jacket with a hood, a long-sleeved warm top, long pants or leggings, a fully charged mobile phone, and 100 RON in cash (for emergencies). Except for the 20K distance, the use of a headlamp is also mandatory.

The Magic of the Location

Transylvania 100 is not an average trail race: it is a hardcore high-mountain adventure. The course layout is designed so that runners reach the most important natural and historical symbols of the area. The start is at Bran Castle. Built in the 14th century, the fortress was originally a strategic defense point and customs house at the pass connecting Transylvania with Wallachia. Although most know it as Dracula's Castle (based on Bram Stoker's description), its historical and architectural value, as well as the legacy of Queen Marie of Romania, make it truly special.

One of the most iconic sections of the race is the Bucegi Plateau, which, at over 2000 meters altitude, transports athletes to a completely different world. Runners pass by unique rock formations such as Babele or the mysterious, human-face-shaped Sphinx. The absolute climax of the course, however, is reaching the 2506-meter-high Omu Peak. At the end of May, meter-high snow walls and freezing winds often greet the field here, but the panorama unfolding from the peak makes every struggle worthwhile. The last sections before the finish lead through the picturesque village of Moieciu de Sus and the Bangăleasa Valley, where wild rocks are replaced by blooming pastures and peacefully grazing flocks before the runners return to the castle towers.
