Comuna Saschiz: 5 million euros investment in sustainable tourism
The Saxon village of Saschiz is renowned for its cultural and ecological landscape. It is important to note that since 1999, some of the Saxon houses in the locality and the fortified Evangelical Church, built in honor of King Stephen I, have been part of the UNESCO World Heritage.
Therefore, investments in adapting the space to the natural context and to the current needs of tourists and residents are more than welcome.
"The purpose of the investment is to create a space in the central area, well integrated into the natural context and the historical character of the area, but carefully related to the needs and desires of the residents and visitors.
To achieve this goal, it is planned to create a unified visual aspect by identifying and capitalizing on the existing character, adapting materials, public lighting, urban furniture, and landscape architecture.
Equally, it is necessary to carry out a set of interventions aimed at improving circulation and creating spaces with specific functions, increasing safety, accessibility, and pedestrian attractiveness, considering solutions that are correlated with nature protection and increasing the interconnection of green infrastructure," stated a press release.
Simion Crețu, the general director of the Regional Development Agency (RDA) Center, through which the financing was mediated, says that 'this project will add value to the locality of Saschiz, an ideal place for those passionate about culture, medieval history, nature, or local gastronomy."
Among the objectives of this endeavor is a 65% increase in the number of visitors to the UNESCO heritage site of Rural Saschiz, 'with the goal of maximizing the role of culture and tourism in local economic development, as well as inclusion and social innovation,' according to a press release announcing the securing of the funding.
The project will be carried out over a period of 36 months, meaning until April 2027.
