Sustainable tourism: another important historical monument enters repairs
What we know about the project
The investment in rehabilitation amounts to over 1.7 million euros (approximately 8.6 million lei).
Currently in an advanced state of decay, the site is expected to be rehabilitated and reopened to the public by April 2027.
The project aims to contribute to the development of cultural tourism and the revitalization of the local community.
The restoration of the historical monument includes architectural work, roof rehabilitation, and landscaping of the exterior space. Cultural and educational activities will later be organized here, involving the local community and attracting visitors.
'Through this project, the beneficiary proposes the revitalization of this cherished site by holding theater workshops, photography sessions, traditional gastronomy classes, tourist guide courses, exhibitions, and Christmas carol concerts,' states a press release.
Digitalization and video mapping
The funding also covers the digitization of this heritage site through a 3D reconstruction of the church, the development of an interactive mobile app dedicated to local Moți traditions, and a video mapping event on the church facade.
'All of this should lead to an increase in the number of visitors and the integration of the site into regional tourist circuits through a marketing strategy and collaborations with tourism agencies, as well as diversifying the socio-economic life of residents,' the project coordinators add.
Why this is a must-visit destination
Here are 3 important reasons why this location should be on your list of places to visit:
1. Built two centuries ago
The 'Saint Archangels' Church is a historical monument of great significance, listed on the Register of Historical Monuments.
Located in the center of Horea and also known as the 'Church in Vale,' the building was constructed from river stone and brick by local residents nearly two centuries ago, between 1842 and 1847.
2. An important symbol in history
This monument is a significant historical symbol for Țara Moților and is associated with the emblematic figure of Avram Iancu.
3. Over 3,000 visitors annually
A key objective of the project is the sustainable development of the Horea commune, attracting at least 3,000 visitors annually.
If you are interested in cultural, religious, and ecological tourism, this will be the perfect destination for you.
